“Full of truth and beauty, really brave. My mum kept on poking me--you've given her a lot of ammo!” Riz Ahmed

“Insightful, charming and funny.” Lenny Henry

Evening Conversations is a warm-hearted, autobiographical drama by acclaimed actor-writer Sudha Bhuchar. This one-woman show explores the complexities of British-Asian identity, drawing on Sudha’s own family experiences as a middle class, middle aged, multicultural mother of millennial sons.

Shaped by Sudha’s cross-continental childhood, a far cry from her sons’ up-bringing in leafy Wimbledon, London, Evening Conversations is a gentle, humorous and truthful 70 minutes of storytelling. Sudha invites her boys to ‘crack open a cold one’ and share their views on life. Shots are fired in the rapid, banter-filled exchanges between mother and sons.

Evening Conversations looks at our tendency to re-evaluate our lives as we grow older and the complexities of identity and difference through the experiences we share. It’s a wry and affectionate look at the differences dividing us from our parents and children’s generations.

Recent reviews for Evening Conversations at this summer’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe:

Asian Culture Vulture: ***** (five stars): “SUDHA BHUCHAR’S autobiographical one-woman show is at turns bitter-sweet, wryly humorous, and thought-provoking ... you will leave the theatre thoughtful and smiling, wiser certainly, but also entertained by an actor who has been so integral to the history of British Asian theatre and its audience.”

West End Best Friend: **** (four stars): "A beautiful and honestly told story of how each generation’s struggle paves the way for the next -- something that all ages and backgrounds can relate to in their own way... Bhuchar is a captivating storyteller."
