In this lecture, BP’s head of downstream technology and chief scientist will look at how collaboration is advancing energy technology, with particular reference to the University of Manchester’s contribution to innovation as the hub of the BP International Centre for Advanced Materials.
Dr. Angela Strank was appointed to the position of Head of Technology, Downstream and BP’s Chief Scientist in June 2015.
Dr. Strank is member of the Downstream Executive Team and she is responsible for the development of sustainable technology advantage for the downstream businesses. As BP’s Chief Scientist she is accountable for developing options to ensure the company can benefit from developments in science and technology worldwide. She also manages BP’s external Technology Advisory Council which advises BP’s executive management and the CEO on the status of science and technology within the company.
Since joining BP in 1982, Angela has held a wide variety of technical and commercial leadership roles in BP’s corporate centre, as well as in the Upstream and Downstream businesses globally. She has a PhD in geology from University of Manchester and the Institute of Geological Sciences and has published over 30 scientific papers.
Dr. Strank is a recognised leader of people, developing strategy, driving innovation and organisational transformation to deliver exceptional business results. She is an executive role model for women in science, technology, industry and business. In 2010, she was the recipient of the UK’s ‘First Women Award’ for Science & Technology.
