Kevin O'Brien was appointed Professor of Orthodontics at the University of Manchester in 1996. He is currently Director of the Healing Foundation Centre for Cleft and Craniofacial Clinical Research at the University of Manchester. He has previously held posts in the USA and was Dean of Manchester Dental School from 2004-2007 and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences from 2007-2010. He was Chair of the General Dental Council 2011-2013.
His main research interests are clinical trials of the care of children with severe dentofacial problems. He has published over 90 scientific papers, mostly in the American Journal of Orthodontics. Committed to both teaching and research, he has obtained €7m external research funding. He currently writes a surprisingly successful orthodontic blog (www.kevinobrienorthoblog.com).
