Title: Introducing INSPECT-SR (INveStigating ProblEmatic Clinical Trials in Systematic Reviews): a tool for assessing the trustworthiness of randomised controlled trials.

Abstract: Problematic studies pose a threat to the integrity of the medical literature. These are studies which contain false data or results, including studies which are products of research fraud. Until now, there have been no agreed methods for identifying these studies. Consequently, problematic studies have been accidentally included in systematic reviews, where they contribute to authoritative healthcare recommendations. A recent example is ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19. False trials were included in systematic reviews, and suggested an impressive protective effect of the drug. The NIHR-funded INSPECT-SR (INveStigating ProblEmatic Clinical Trials in Systematic Reviews) project has developed a tool to identify problematic studies in health systematic reviews. In this talk, I will introduce the INSPECT-SR tool, explaining the rationale and development process, before presenting the tool by way of application to real examples.
