Please join us for the launch of a new report that raises urgent questions about racial
attitudes, procedures and practices in the English and Welsh justice system focusing
on judicial office holders.
In 2020 the Lord Chief Justice launched the Judicial Diversity & Inclusion Strategy at a
time of raised public concern about the treatment of Black and other ethnic minority
people in the justice system. This report assesses the terms of the strategy and draws
on findings from a new survey of legal professionals.
Researchers found a profound disparity between the conclusions of the 5-year strategy
that the justice system is basically fair and that there has been progress in diversity and
inclusion versus the widespread views and experiences of the legal professionals
surveyed that racial bias plays a significant role in the justice system.
During this 90-minute session, we will share our findings and welcome feedback
from the audience
