The Manchester International Law Centre is happy to welcome Mr. Victor do Prado, who is currently the Director of the Council and Trade Negotiations Committee Division in the WTO to address the following topic:
"WTO embodies a system that was created within a certain international order: firstly in the post WW-II context, then in the aftermath of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Its binding Dispute Settlement mechanism has been hailed as the most advanced amongst international tribunals. The WTO has a unique characteristic, in that it is both a negotiating forum (creating new Law) and an adjudicating body (interpreting that Law). It has been largely successful up to now. However, the international context today is very different from that of the late 1940s or the early 1990s. Can the WTO Law continue to thrive in today's world? What is the future of a multilateral institution such as the WTO? Reflections and an attempt to reply to these questions at this lecture."
