This is an inter-disciplinary seminar series which aims to bring together researchers interested in broadening the understanding and tackling some of the most pressing challenges faced by health systems globally.
The series provides a forum for interdisciplinary exchange, showcasing theoretical and empirical research, policy analysis, and implementation insights from diverse regional, disciplinary and methodological perspectives.
This is a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the University who share an interest in health and health systems across different settings. We welcome suggestions and ideas.
The seminars will be held in person only.

“Childhood anaemia in rural Maya communities: universal screening and first-cycle outcomes from a cluster maternal and child health program in Quintana Roo, Mexico”
This seminar presents a cluster-based maternal and child health project implemented with multiple actors, including non-governmental organizations and the regional Ministry of Health. The focus is childhood anaemia in rural Maya communities in Quintana Roo, Mexico.
The talk will present findings from universal anaemia screening across rural communities, followed by first-cycle outcomes from targeted prevention among children at risk and treatment among children with anaemia. It will then discuss what these results suggest for program monitoring, follow-up design, and regional scale-up within routine maternal and child health services.
About the speaker: Dr Luis Martínez Juárez is a Lecturer in Global Health at the University of Manchester. He holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in Public Health. He is affiliated with the Center for Global Health Equity at the University of Michigan and the Center for Humanitarian Health at Johns Hopkins University.
