Renée van Amerongen is professor of Stem Cell and Cancer Biology at the University of Amsterdam, where she chairs the Developmental, Stem Cell and Cancer Biology group (DSCCB) at the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences and serves as program director of the bachelor Biomedical Sciences. She is also an elected member of the organizing committee of the European Network for Breast Development and Cancer labs and an editorial board member of the Journal of Mammary Gland Biology and Neoplasia. Her main research interests lie in the area of WNT signaling, mammary gland biology and breast cancer research - building on her PhD and postdoc training with Anton Berns at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and Roel Nusse at Stanford University, respectively. Her talk will cover the challenges of translating findings between mouse and human model systems - highlighting her lab’s most recent publication in Cell Reports (on tissue-specific WNT gene regulation, out this month) and unpublished work on the involvement of WNT/CTNNB1 signaling in human breast cancer.
