Overview This two-hour, in-person workshop—co-developed by FBMH and the Students’ Union—introduces staff to what decolonising the curriculum means and why it matters. Through student perspectives, real examples from SBS, SHS and SMS and guided activities using the Students’ Union’s Decolonising Toolkit, participants will explore practical ways to create more inclusive and representative learning environments.

Intended Learning Objectives: By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles and importance of decolonising the curriculum.
  • Recognise how decolonised educational practices impact student belonging and engagement.
  • Identify practical examples of decolonising work within SBS, SHS and SMS.
  • Reflect on their own teaching materials and approaches.
  • Use the Students’ Union Decolonising Toolkit to support inclusive curriculum development.
  • Plan initial steps to incorporate decolonising practices into their own teaching contexts.
  • Engage in constructive dialogue with colleagues about challenges and opportunities.
