Academic leadership today requires navigating increasing complexity: interdisciplinary collaboration, diverse student and staff communities, and evolving institutional priorities. By developing greater self-awareness and enhancing emotional and social intelligence, you will not only respond to these challenges more effectively but also create environments in which colleagues and students alike feel respected, valued, and empowered to contribute fully.
This workshop invites participants to reflect deeply on their own leadership practice, examining the ways in which self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and authenticity contribute to building trust and fostering inclusion.
Learning Approach
The workshop blends theory with practice, offering participants:
- Guided self-reflection to uncover the values, assumptions, and biases that influence leadership decisions.
- Group dialogue and peer learning to explore diverse perspectives and build mutual understanding.
- Practical tools and exercises that can be applied in day-to-day academic leadership contexts.
Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the core concepts of emotional intelligence and their relevance to academic leadership.
- Critically reflect on their emotional and social functioning, identifying strengths and areas for growth.
- Consider and evaluate different leadership styles, with particular attention to approaches that foster inclusion and authenticity.
- Develop strategies for leading with self-awareness and impact, building environments in which colleagues and students feel seen, heard, and valued.
