Join us for this PSI seminar with guest speaker Prof. Ben Eggleton. In this seminar, I will provide an overview of research in nanophotonics at the University of Sydney, focusing on integrated photonics, smart sensing systems, and nonlinear optical signal processing. A key highlight will be recent developments from my research group in photonic chip-based microwave photonic signal processing, with broad applications in communications, security and sensing. Notably, I will discuss our work on photonic radar systems, which achieve millimeter-level range resolution by leveraging photonic-synthesized radar signals with bandwidths up to 30 GHz. This capability enables highly precise respiratory detection in human proxies and complex biological systems, such as cane toads. Additionally, I will explore ongoing efforts to miniaturize these systems through photonic integration, highlighting the exciting prospects for next-generation photonic-enabled sensing technologies.
