Join us for an online lunchtime session to hear from Professor Will Dixon, who will share his experiences from being on the MRC Population and Systems Medicine Board (PSMB ukri.org) and also the strategic level Population Health Sciences Group Population Health Sciences Group (PHSG). We’re delighted to also be joined by Dr Katherine Dunne who is the MRC Programme Manager for Population Health (PSMB) and UK Prevention Research Partnership.
The session will be useful for anyone who wants to find out more about the MRC as a funder, including people thinking of applying to the MRC, and those advising or reviewing applications for others. Please share the word with colleagues – all disciplines and career stages are welcome.
Will can explain how the funding process works, including Board money allocation, peer review, triage, rebuttal and other Board processes, and how these learnings influenced his own successful Partnership Grant submission. Katherine will then give her perspectives as Programme Manager for PSMB.
PSMB supports mechanistic and applied research relating to the physiology and pathophysiology of major human organs and systems, including population health and the impact of environmental factors on health and development across the life course. The PHSG is responsible for developing the MRC strategy for population-based health research and ensuring that MRC’s portfolio in this area remains strong across all research boards. Specific areas of responsibility include epidemiology, investment in cohorts and biobanks, population research methodologies including modelling and population-based genetic studies.
