This seminar is in the form of a pre-Christma entertainment.
We have recently learnt about the work of Desmond Henry 1921-2004 (see http://www.desmondhenry.com) who was an artist, philosopher and pioneer in computer art. He used wartime analogue computing devices to create artworks and was a member of the Philosophy Department here. He discussed morphogensis with Alan Turing and received an award from L. S. Lowry.
We are planning to create a display of his work, possibly in the Kilburn Building. There has been a recent exhibition of his work at MOSI.
Desmond's daugher, who keeps his archive, is offering to give us an illustrated tak about her father's work.
Do come along. Desmond Henry was a very interesting character and a highly accomplished artist as well as an engineer and philosopher. If you are interested in helpting with a display of his work - this is an opportunity to get involved.
There will be an opportunity to meet the speaker at a reception after the seminar when refreshmetns will be available.
