Are you keen to engage policymakers with your research findings? Academics from The University of Manchester (including ECRs) are invited to join Policy@Manchester for a full day, in-person workshop on engaging with policymakers.
Facilitated by the Institute for Government instituteforgovernment.org.uk this session will demystify government and explain how to engage successfully with policymakers. Participants will learn how government and policymaking work, explore routes to policy engagement and practise communicating with policymakers. It will combine interactive presentations with activities that allow participants to apply learning directly to their own research areas.
This workshop is suitable for researchers of all levels, and no previous experience of policy engagement is necessary.
Participants will:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the UK government landscape and its components
- Learn how academic research is used in policy making
- Learn practical tips for engaging with parliament, the civil service, devolved and local government and intermediary organisation
- Explore the characteristics and constraints of different policy audiences, and the considerations for communicating with them effectively
- Discuss how to build their profiles as a researcher and use online tools to enhance their work
- Practise pitching their research to a non-expert audience and get feedback for development
This session is open to academics working at The University of Manchester, including ECRs. To register please email policy@manchester.ac.uk with your name, job title and any dietary or access requirements we should be aware of.
