The Behaviour Change Meeting Group at The University of Manchester has the purpose of bringing together academics and clinicians across several institutes who are working with behaviour change, intervention development and/or implementation theory. We usually meet online on the first Thursday of the month at 3pm, inviting external speakers and internal speakers to discuss and gain feedback on their latest research in the field. We have a range of health and clinical psychologists in the group as well as epidemiologists, nurses and physiotherapists who work with a range of different short-term and long-term conditions in different contexts (public, patient and healthcare professional groups).

If you would like to be added to the email list to hear about future meetings, please contact Rhiannon Hawkes: rhiannon.hawkes@manchester.ac.uk

Our next Behaviour Change Meeting will be held on Thursday 2nd July 2026 at 3pm , where we have Dr Abby Moffat from Birmingham City Council presenting on ‘Embedding Behavioural Science in Local Authority Public Health: Influences, Implementation, and Future Directions’.

Abby Moffat is a behavioural scientist and trainee Health Psychologist who has worked in local authority public health for the past six years. She currently leads the Behavioural Science Service at Birmingham City Council, where she supports teams in understanding and applying behavioural science to public health policy, interventions, and services. Her work also focuses on supporting behaviour change and implementation at organisational and system levels. Abby completed her PhD earlier this year, which explored how behavioural science can be successfully embedded within local authority public health. Her research examined how behavioural science is used across local authorities, identified key influences on its implementation, and developed practical recommendations to support its adoption. She now applies these insights to strengthen the use of behavioural science across public health practice.
