The departments of English, American Studies and Creative Writing and Drama are delighted to welcome filmmaker Dan Mirvish to Manchester. Dan is co-founder of the Slamdance Film Festival in the States, a veteran indie film director/producer/writer, and author of the Focal Press/Routledge book, The Cheerful Subversive’s Guide to Independent Filmmaking. He is in the UK for the premiere of his new film 18½ (a Watergate thriller/comedy with Bruce Campbell as the voice of Nixon and Willa Fitzgerald TV Series) at the Manchester Film Festival on March 18.
Dan has guest lectured at over 45 film schools and universities in the United States and internationally, covering topics such as directing, writing, producing, casting, cinematography, editing, film history, film theory, the business of independent film, how to navigate film festivals, and offers career advice for aspiring filmmakers. Prior to his film career, Dan was a speechwriter in Washington DC for former Iowa US Senator Tom Harkin.
